About us

About us

A Faith-Based Organization Uniting Swahili-Speaking Communities.

About MGM

MGM is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to uniting and uplifting refugees and immigrants from Eastern Africa—including DR Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and South Sudan. We serve communities in North Carolina’s Piedmont Triad and surrounding counties, addressing the whole person through physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and economic support.

Our approach recognizes that successful integration requires more than basic services—it demands community, cultural connection, and opportunities to contribute meaningfully. Through our programs, we create pathways to self-sufficiency while preserving cultural identity and fostering belonging.

Our Mission

To fill the gap in service delivery to Swahili-speaking refugees and immigrants in the Piedmont Triad who do not qualify under Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) services. Specifically, by assisting with a strong community integration process, delivering guidance, counseling, feeding, and education — and in the near future we aim to provide temporary shelters for refugees at risk of homelessness.

Our Vision

A united, empowered, and reconciled Swahili-speaking community that is stronger, healthier, and thriving in hope and dignity across generations.

Our History

From Humble Beginnings to Community Transformation

Mundeke Gospel Mission began in 2022 as a response to the growing needs of Swahili-speaking refugees settling in North Carolina’s Piedmont Triad region. Our founders, Pastor Prince Mundeke and Laurette Mundeke, recognized the unique challenges faced by their community—cultural isolation, language barriers, and service gaps that left many without essential support.

Key milestones

  • 2022: Founded as a volunteer outreach program in Greensboro
  • 2023: Official 501(c)(3) nonprofit status; launched first ESL classes at El-Shaddai Vision Church
  • 2024: Expanded mental health services; translated NC Driver’s Handbook into Swahili; hosted inaugural Swahili Day Celebration with 800+ attendees
  • 2025: Established Uganda School Support Project; received $10,000 mental health grant; expanded to three locations across the Piedmont Triad

Growth and impact

From a small group meeting in a church basement, MGM has grown into a comprehensive organization serving 500+ refugees annually across the Piedmont Triad. Our programs now address every aspect of refugee integration—from immediate needs to long-term empowerment.

Looking forward

As we grow, our commitment remains unchanged: to build a community where every Swahili-speaking refugee and immigrant can thrive with dignity, hope, and purpose.
